Welcome to the History Hammer, a website dedicated to the wonderful, complex and sometimes totally bananas world of human history. On face value it might seem arduous to ponder through a whole 200,000 years of our fair planet, but fortunately for us and the possibly dozens like us who also enjoy this ‘old timey business’, our ancestors generously packed it full of stories to shock, entertain and inspire (they also only started writing it down about 6000 years ago so that eliminates roughly 97% of our research time).
Yet as I’m sure many of you will have noticed, the study of history isn’t exactly new and pretty much every little boy and girl knows who Henry VIII is by the time they hit primary school - so what makes this stimulating (and not to mention handsome) enterprise so different?
Well to put it simply, there’s so much more to history than school syllabus favourites like the Tudors or the Battle of Hastings, with many scholars agreeing that some of it actually occurred OUTSIDE of the British Isles! Now far be it from us to say that those tried and tested topics aren’t really interesting (which they totally are) but they only cover a tiny proportion of the most fascinating tales from our past. Our intention at History Hammer is to take the criminally under studied eras of yesteryear, tenderly repackage them and send them hurtling into the World Wide Web for lovely people like you to read when you’re bored.
So by all means take some time to browse our historical ramblings and share with friends if you enjoy the content. You can also get in touch with us using the contact form below to discuss these wonderful subjects further. Thanks for reading!
